Mission

Builders of Hope seeks to increase the availability of high-quality, safe, affordable and workforce housing options. Through innovative reuse and rehabilitation we incorporate economic benefits, environmental stewardship and social solutions. As social entrepreneurs, Builders of Hope sustainably revitalizes at-risk communities — one home, one family, one life at a time.

Liveable, Walkable, Sustainable

Our vision is to be leaders in innovation of sustainable redevelopment. We strive to positively impact the development of livable, walkable, sustainable cities and to create stable communities so families can live where they work.  We see a future where urban neighborhoods are truly mixed use and mixed income, where families can thrive while building economic independence and generational wealth.

Some of our nation’s most challenged urban neighborhoods were once thriving, family-friendly communities.  Over time they lost their economic vitality and suffered from crime and appearance issues.  As they declined, they also became isolated from the greater community.  Combined these circumstances affect school performance in children, access to gainful employment, and poverty levels.

However, by partnering with concerned citizens in these neighborhoods, as well as their local government, businesses, houses of worship and other organizations, Builders of Hope is making positive change in these communities, one home, one block, at a time.

The Extreme Green Rehabilitation process is a key component to community revitalization.  In these neighborhoods, Builders of Hope transforms existing, substandard housing into attractive, livable and green housing for families in need of affordable rental and homeownership opportunities.

Building green is particularly important in urban areas.  Typical affordable housing often uses cheap building materials that are damaging to the environment and detrimental to the health of residents; this is especially seen in high rates of asthma and allergies in children and the elderly living in public housing.   Proper ventiliation, low VOC paints and sealants, and moisture barriers in Builders of Hope homes can reduce the incidence and severity of these diseases in residents.

Builders of Hope also seeks public features such as mass transportation, the creation of community gardens and sidewalks, etc. that benefit a healthier lifestyle and the environment.  Each community in which Builders of Hope is invited to bring our mission and model has unique challenges and features, but the goal remains the same:  return these communities to safety, stability and vitality.
